Behind the exuberance lies a deeply emotional person, afraid of being hurt. Ashwini Deshmukh unravels the lesser known Ranveer Singh.
After a long time, an outsider has managed to put a foot in the door of superstardom. Slowly and steadily, Ranveer Singh has laid claim to the marquee throne. He was always slated for big things but his association with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, his chemistry with Deepika Padukone and his consistency at the box-office has slalomed him to the very top. He’s being touted as the next superstar and some would say that’s a foregone conclusion.
His characteristic energy and the consummate ease with which he courts madness is part of why he’s loved by the masses. There’s literally no one like Ranveer Singh. Romance, action and drama are part of his DNA. It was as if he was born to entertain. That the reclusive Aditya Chopra has made a beeline for him with Befikre only adds to his brand. Ranveer is hot property and the other filmmaking tycoons are lining up fast. In five years he’s trumped the star kids and raced ahead. His success story has been just as dramatic as his films. And many would say, this is just the beginning. In a freewheeling conversation, the newest sovereign of showbiz shares what it feels like to be on top of the world.
Is this the best phase of your life?
Workload has quadrupled after Bajirao Mastani. I’m trying my best to cope. I’ve seen my co-actors like Priyanka (Chopra) and Deepika (Padukone) multitask. I’m not good at multitasking. I had to train myself. If left to me, I’d do just one thing at a time. A lot of work is coming my way endorsements, live shows... The phone hasn’t stopped ringing ever since Bajirao... Touchwood! I’ve also become far more disciplined with my eating and sleeping habits. So these are exciting times. I’m as much looking forward to leaving for Paris for Befikre.
