ON THE ROAD My friend and colleague Cyrus Shaukar and I visited Himachal Pradesh on an assignment and returned with beautiful memories of the exotic and rough terrains. Mountains, valleys, people, flavours... we carried memories of all these back home.

We first reached Dharamsala by flight. After that it was all about driving. I drove about a 1,000 kms in eight days, sometimes on some of the most dangerous roads in the world. Some days we would drive for about nine hours on roads that had landslides and some that had caved in. We were literally on the edge because we were driving on narrow roads in the middle of the night. The other thing that made it difficult was the lack of oxygen. We had to finish the trip in eight days so there wasn’t much time to acclimatise. That plays tricks with your system.
