Jenny From The Block Is Abs-olutely Rocking Her Famous Figure At 49!
She’ll be celebrating her milestone 50th birthday on July 24 this year – crazy, right? – but Jennifer Lopez’s body is in tiptop shape. Especially now that JLo and her ‘secret weapon’ boyfriend Alex Rodriguez, 43, have completed their 10-day no-sugar, no-carbs challenge! Seriously, who even has abs like that?
‘Super-happy, super-proud, we did it,’ the 49-year-old posted on Insta. The Booty singer and her former baseball player beau kicked carbs and sugar, including pizza and chocolate chip ice-cream (JLo’s weaknesses) and sweet potato fries, pizza, rice, oats and homemade kale chips (A-Rod’s treats of choice) to the curb during their body blitz challenge, which commenced on January 21.
Instead, Jen and Alex fuelled up on leafy green salads and upped their protein intake. ‘Protein is my go-to whenever I start having cravings,’ she tells. ‘It fills me up and keeps me full longer. It’s a great muscle fuel.’ Jen also kickstarts her day with a protein shake. ‘It sets the tone for the day and it gives me a lot of energy.’
While the super-fit star clearly didn’t need to lose weight to start with, Jen says that, like many women, her weight regularly fluctuates. ‘I go up and down like [3kg or 4kg] all the time,’ she says. ‘Like when [I was] doing the Vegas show I got slim. Then when I stopped, I’m eating and I get chunky – I feel it.’
It’s estimated that the no-sugar, no-carbs 10-day regimen will have whittled at least 4kg from her 164cm tall frame. Celebrity trainer James Duigan says it’s possible to lose that amount of weight in that time frame by cutting out sugar and refined carbs, such as bread and pasta. ‘Eat real butter, yoghurt and milk and cheese. Keep the doses small, though,’ he advises, while also recommending lots of green vegies for fibre.
