At last, it was her turn. Months after Brad Pitt opened up to GQ Style about his shocking split from Angelina Jolie in September, she sat down with Vanity Fair for her first big post-break-up interview. But while Brad’s was widely viewed as a humbling mea culpa, Ange’s piece, released on July 26, was filled with subtle shade and innuendo aimed directly at her ex. ‘It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air,’ Ange said of herself and her six children with the actor. ‘We’re all trying to do our best to heal our family.’

The kids, she revealed, ‘[have] been very brave… They were very brave… in times they needed to be.’ Ange herself has been masking her pain, trying to keep her emotions at bay for the sake of her family. ‘I was very worried about my mother, growing up – a lot. I do not want my children to be worried about me,’ she shared. ‘I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is.’ But perhaps most cryptic of all her carefully worded statements? ‘We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing,’ she divulged. ‘They’re not healing from divorce. They’re healing from some… from life, from things in life.’
