Last month on Valentine’s Day, Ashton Kutcher delivered wife Mila Kunis’ gift – and it was an epic fail. The actress and their kids, daughter Wyatt, four, and son Dimitri, two, had enjoyed watching wild birds nest outside their kitchen window over the last year, so Ashton decided he’d surprise his wife with a pair of lovebirds to mark the holiday.

Except after he brought them home, Mila discovered they were actually just regular old pet-store parakeets. As she recounted the sad and funny story during an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show a few weeks later, Mila quipped, ‘It’s the thought that counts.’

But when it comes to their marriage, Mila thinks actions speak louder than words. Nearly four years after the former That ’70s Show co-stars tied the knot, ‘Mila and Ashton have hit a crossroad,’ an insider reveals. Though they’ve publicly presented themselves as a devoted couple, flaunting PDA during an Oscars afterparty on February 24, privately ‘things have been rocky for a while. And now Mila has finally given Ashton an ultimatum: take our marriage seriously, or it’s over,’ says the insider, explaining that there’s a major hurdle Mila, 35, can’t clear. ‘She wants Ashton to go to therapy, but he doesn’t believe in it. Plus, he doesn’t think they have a problem, so he sees no reason for counselling.’
