The Multi-talented Star Roars Into the Limelight

While he’s been a familiar face on our favourite TV shows for the last few years, it’s understandable that you may have missed the hype about Donald Glover.

Despite winning Emmys, Golden Globes and Grammys, the 35-year-old actor-writer director-producer-musician is notoriously low-key. After roles in Community and a brief two-episode arc on Lena Dunham’s Girls, while also enjoying a parallel career in the music world under the guise of his Childish Gambino alter ego, Donald exploded onto the cultural map with his hit show Atlanta and established himself as a major Hollywood player.

And last year he expanded his global appeal with his co-starring role, Lando Calrissian, in Disney’s Han Solo spin-off Solo: A Star Wars Story.

This month sees Donald – who lives with his long-term girlfriend Michelle and their two sons Legend, three, and Drake, 18 months, in Los Angeles – adding to his burgeoning fame as the star of Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King, which hit cinemas on July 17.

Donald lent his voice to the adult Simba, the hero of the beloved children’s tale, with Beyoncé playing Simba’s wife Nala. Much of the buzz surrounding the film comes from Donald joining Beyoncé in a duet rendition of Can You Feel The Love Tonight, the Oscar-winning Elton John song from the 1994 original.
