Her Majesty the Queen has been spending lockdown at her ‘weekend abode’ Windsor Castle. She arrived on 19 March and is self-isolating in her private apartments with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh, who turns 99 in June.
The pair have enough room to enjoy “their own space”, says royal expert Ingrid Seward. They also have 22 members of staff on hand, including trusted aide Paul Whybrew and official dresser Angela Kelly.
“The Queen’s desperate to get to Balmoral for the summer but I think she’s coping very well at Windsor,” Ingrid tells OK!. “This is the first opportunity in her entire working life that she’s had any time to herself. She’s enjoying her freedom. She’s an inquisitive woman and with the castle closed to the public she’s getting to nose around in areas she can’t usually visit.
“The reduction in air traffic is wonderful, too. Normally, planes fly over every two minutes.”
