She’s had a year of dizzying highs with the birth of her daughter, a book publication and a royal interview to make the history books.
And with a milestone birthday around the corner, the Duchess of Sussex is ready to celebrate in true LA style.
Meghan turns 40 on 4 August and living in the millionaires’ enclave of Montecito, tucked between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, she’s already got the perfect location.
This is an area with an extraordinary concentration of wealth and celebrity. It is home to Oprah Winfrey (she calls her sprawling estate “The Promised Land”), Ellen DeGeneres, Ariana Grande, Gwyneth Paltrow and a broad sprinkling of the US’s super-rich whose multimillion-dollar estates stud the hillsides and, occasionally, raise local eyebrows because of their sheer, unabashed extravagance.
“Montecito is uber exclusive,” LA broadcaster Caroline Feraday told OK! “And when your neighbours are American royalty like Oprah and Ellen, there are plenty of locations fit for a Duchess to celebrate.
“The residents in Montecito are always very hard to impress, or at least, demonstrate that they’re impressed, so Meghan could go out and people will act suitably unimpressed because that’s the cool thing to do.
“Plus they don’t get pestered by the paps and they have a lot of privacy in their residence because it’s in a gated community guarded by security, so you can’t even get to her actual street, much less to her front door. This will be an exclusive invite-only bash, for sure.”
