THE CROWNS TARGILLIAN ANDERSON TELLS OK! SHE’S HOPING TO SHOW A MORE HUMAN SIDE OF OUR FORMER PRIME MINISTER AND REVEALS SHE HAD TO WEAR A FAT SUIT

‘SEEING MYSELF AS MARGARET THATCHER WAS A BIT FREAKY!'

Gillian Anderson wouldn’t necessarily have been our first choice if we were to list actresses suitable to play Margaret Thatcher in The Crown. But the star has wholeheartedly embraced her latest role, and with the help of amazing hair and make-up, a fat suit and her uncanny ability to do the former prime minister’s voice and mannerisms, she’s totally nailed it.

And Gillian, 52, couldn’t be more thrilled about joining series four of the iconic Netflix show, which just happens to be written by her partner of four years, Peter Morgan.

“Aside from the fact that period drama is great comfort food, the show is great quality,” she tells us. “You’re offered a history lesson, as well as a deep look into the royal family.”

That’s certainly why we’re hooked! This series, which explores the relationship between Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, at the height of their marriage crisis, looks set to be more gripping than ever, with the Sex Education star telling us that the dynamic between them is “fascinating”.

Here, Gillian, who lives in London with Peter, 57, and her two sons from a previous relationship – Oscar, 13, and Felix, 12 – tells OK! why our capital is her favourite place to be and how getting into character for The

Crown was a long and highly entertaining process...

A lot of people will be tuning into The Crown this winter. Why do you think it’s so popular?
