The Duchess of Sussex has delivered a heartfelt speech in response to the death of George Floyd, telling pupils at her former school, “I know you know that black lives matter.”
Speaking in a video message, Meghan said, “I wasn’t sure what I could say to you. I wanted to say the right thing and I was really nervous that it would get picked apart. And I realised the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.”
The 38-year-old opened up about the Black Lives Matter movement as she congratulated graduating pupils at Immaculate Heart High, her former girls’ school in Los Angeles.
Meghan continued, “As we’ve all seen over the last week, what is happening in our country and in our state and in our home town of LA has been absolutely devastating.” She went on to name other African Americans who have been killed by US police as she declared, “George Floyd’s life mattered.”
The former Suits actress also recalled growing up in LA during the riots following the brutal police beating of Rodney King in 1991.
