You know what I learned from watching the Olympics? How to fall off a pommel horse. Kidding! I learned how much I missed watching DAYS.
I was never a big fan of their most preposterous stories like Marlena’s possession, Rex and Cassie dropping in from outer space, or, more recently, Kristen donning a rubber suit to change her height, weight and age so she could impersonate other women in Salem.
But wow did DAYS go out with a bang before being pre-empted for the Olympics. Lucas declared his love to Sami, Nicole spilled Lucas and Sami’s affair to EJ, and Ben stopped Ciara’s wedding to Theo. Heartfelt stories grounded in reality beat farfetched science fiction every day of our lives. (See what I did there?)
Lucas (to Sami): “I want to rub [our affair] in EJ’s smug, arrogant face. I’ll never understand why you love this man after he’s mistreated you.”
Me neither. Or why Sami at her anniversary party for cheating on Eric when Sami had just done the exact same thing to her own husband. Say what you want about Sami, she’s consistent: She’s been sabotaging herself since 1993 when she went after her sister Carrie’s boyfriend (Austin, duh) so it was hugely satisfying to watch Nicole turn the tables and throw Sami’s infidelity in EJ’s face.
Stories must be logically built to be believable.
Nicole: “Your sister wrote you a letter.”
EJ: “You’ve read this?”
Nicole: “Yes. I’m an adulteress and a snoop. At least you’re reading about your slut of a wife in the privacy of your office. Eric heard about me in front of his mother and, oh yes, his devoted twin who we now know is no better than me. Seems you underestimated Lucas’s ... assets.”
Is there a better cliffhanger than EJ taking the unsuspecting Sami in his arms and calling her his “loving, faithful wife”?
