The big baddies of Newtown can really learn a thing or two from Simo (Sandile Mahlangu) about getting the job done. Not only did he manage to get the usually level-headed Grace (Bathabile Mashigo) to agree to marry him, he’s also squeezed a fair amount of money out of her – and all in a matter of two months.

THE LOVE TRAP

When Simo rocked up in town with his equally conniving girlfriend Violeta (Cindy Mahlangu) at his side in August, he only had one goal: paying back the money he stole from Violeta’s estranged hubby. It wasn’t long before Simo had the perfect target and within a matter of weeks, he made quick work of seducing Grace. “Simo is young. He wants her. He gives her the courage to finally stand up to her son Romeo (Hungani Ndlovu). The sex is great and she hasn’t been loved since Lucas Nyathi (Sello Maake Ka-Ncube) left her (in 2016),” explains Bathabile.

Within weeks, Simo has convinced Grace to help him pay off his so-called R5 million debt, and Grace doesn’t ask many questions either. Looking back, Bathabile is the first to admit this was probably not the smartest thing to do. “Yes, I want to slap her myself!” Tasting wealth, Simo was like a shark smelling blood in the water. And he did what any greedy thief would do – he proposed to Grace. “Simo got a little too confident,” Sandile reveals. “He wanted to go for something bigger than just money to pay off his debt. He wanted the wealth that owning a hotel would bring and the most secure way to getting a hotel is marrying a person who already owns one – like Grace, who is owner of The Newtonian.”
