A drive with massive capacity and protective ambitions
Drobo’s storage drives combine the capacity of multiple disks as one large volume, much like in RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) systems, though its BeyondRAID system has a notable added benefit. If a limited number of disks fail, you swap the broken one(s) and slide in a replacement of at least the same capacity without having to shut it down.
The drive sets aside some capacity, spread across the disks, to cope with one disk failing. That’s the default, but you can set aside more space to deal with two simultaneous failures without losing data. The drive rebuilds the array in the background as you work.
