Podcasts have become incredibly popular in the many years since they started on Apple's iPod, and from which they derive their name. These days, you can listen to a podcast anywhere, streamed to your phone while on the move, or even on your Watch or Smart TV.
The variety of subjects they cover ranges from Advertising to Zoology, and that’s because with a little time and the right equipment, almost anyone can create and publish their own podcast that could potentially reach an audience of thousands. Maybe you're passionate about a certain TV series or a particular sport. It’s never been easier to share your interests with the world.
But podcasts don’t just happen. In addition to a good idea for the subject and a potential target audience, you'll need some equipment to get that broadcasted to your listeners. And once you've refined your podcasting skills, there’s the issue of monetizing your creation how do you make your podcast pay? We'll be looking at what you need to create a great podcast with tips and tricks to guide you as well as some sources of advice and inspiration. Hopefully, by the end of this feature, you'll discover that creating your own podcast is easier than you think, and who knows, maybe internet fame awaits. We've used GarageBand as the basis of this tutorial, as it’s probably the easiest way to get started, but the techniques and ideas transfer over to the PC and Windows in the form of Audacity free) or Adobe Audition, or indeed the free online Anchor app that Spotify publishes for budding podcasters.
