A lot of work was done optimizing the cache system, and performance per watt, which is said to be 50 percent better than RDNA. It has also included hardware ray-tracing for the first time, with one RT accelerator per CU. The results, even if we have to rely on AMD&rsquo;s claims and bar charts for now, are impressive. The RX 6800 XT was shown to be comparable with an RTX 3080 at 4K and 1440p, the two were within spitting distance running the 10 AAA titles used as benchmarks. The RX 6900 XT similarly does well against the RTX 3090 at 4K. The RX 6800 was compared to an RTX 2080 Ti, the RTX 3070 not being available yet&mdash;and naturally it managed to be slightly better.</p><p id="3">If you couple the new cards with Ryzen 5000-series chips and 500-series boards there&rsquo;s an extra treat, thanks to Smart Access Memory. Which will give between a two and eight percent performance bump. You also have a one-click overclocking mode called Rage Mode, which squeezes the processors even more. Next issue, when we have the real thing in our clutches (maybe), we&rsquo;ll see just how the 6000-series pans out. Launch events are always enthusiastic affairs, that said Is there a new champion? We&rsquo;ll see, but AMD has certainly brought a big stick to the fight.</p>
