WE ALL KNOW HOW important it is to have a webcam, especially in a pandemic. Staying in touch with loved ones, friends, and work colleagues is essential for keeping the world ticking. As crucial as webcams are, though, nobody wants a PlayStation 2 EyeToy-quality conference call, so upgrading our webcam is a choice a lot of us have made. Elgato, however, has provided an alternate method. It clearly looked in its pocket and thought: Hey, phones have pretty good cameras; they’d make pretty good webcams, right? And so we have the Elgato EpocCam app, with an accompanying assortment of mounts to turn your iPhone into a webcam. Sounds like a reasonable alternative and it makes the most out of what you already have. This could be a great use of an old phone that would otherwise just be collecting more dust than an Xbox 360.
Tripods, mounts, and stands suffocate the market. There are millions of variations at all sorts of prices, all of which do different things. What Elgato is offering here is a variety of solutions to use your iPhone as a webcam. The company calls this modular rigging system the Multi Mount. In the combo set we’ve got a Master Mount L, Flex Arm L, and a Phone Grip, which do exactly what you’d expect. All of these products are extremely well put together and made out of durable materials, with only the fastener being made of plastic and the poles from forged steel. With this comes great reassurance that your phone will not move in the mount. Nobody likes a wobbly webcam, do they?
