Samsung Gear Fit2

Fitbit might be the most recognised name in the fitness tracker market, but samsung intends to change that with the gear fit 2. it irons out a lot of the rough spots of the original gear fit and comes with a unique form factor. but will that be enough? Anuj Bhatia put it through its paces.

Fitness trackers are either sporty, or look too plain, as in case of Fitbit charge Hr and Xiaomi Mi band - the two best selling fitness trackers in the market today. they do come with a silicon trap or in some cases may have a display. In comparison to smart watches, they of course offer less features. this is where the Gear Fit2 comes in - a cross between smart watches and activity trackers.

The Gear Fit2 certainly looks sporty which is acceptable, but has more watch like feeling, setting itself apart from the crowd. Just like the first-generation Gear Fit, the newest model has a large curved screen that fits into a silicon band. this time, though, the 1.5-inch curved Super AMoLeD screen, which has a resolution of 432x216 pixels, is smaller than the 1.84- inch curved screen on the original Gear, but boasts double the screen width. the wide screen is easier to navigate. Samsung managed to squeeze in 322 pixels per inch (ppi), meaning the screen is bound to look bright and crisp. the screen is made out of corning Glass 3, and is tough enough to take a few knocks. even in direct sunlight, we were able to read notifications clearly - something that impressed us.

Our unit which came in a black colored high-quality silicon strap which fit comfortably on the wrist. the Gear Fit2 won’t be available in two sizes for different wrists in India although you can still buy the Fit2 in large size and choose amongst three colors: blue, black and pink. the larger Gear Fit 2 is very much a male device. the Fitbit charge 2 has its own advantages, but the Gear Fit2 isn’t at all flashy and managed to grab eyeballs with the right design. And yes, it’s even water resistant with an IP68 rating, so it be should remain safe from rain and accidental splashes of water.
