On their fourth visit to the country last October, vocalist Bradley Simpson, guitarist James McVey, bassist Connor Ball, and drummer Tristan Evans of The Vamps were all looking forward to play outdoors for the grand opening of the new Ayala Vertis North in Quezon City. A day before the show, Speed got to talk to the British group about their music, their growth over the last three years, and how technology helps them get through all their travels.
How much has your music changed since you first came to Manila?
James: I think our music has changed massively in the last three years—like it’s gone from, folk and acoustic to a bit of rock and sort of EDM dance music now. But it isn’t just us that’s changed, it’s the whole industry in the UK, like they’ve got streaming now, so Spotify and all that stuff has taken over. I think it’s about keeping up with the times and pushing ourselves, trying out new things. We’re definitely in a different place now, but we’re really enjoying it.
How has technology directly affected your songwriting or live performances?
