OXM TALKS EXCLUSIVELY TO GUNFIRE GAMES TO DISCOVER HOW FURY’S MISSION TO CAPTURE THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS IS THE MOST AMBITIOUS DARKSIDERS GAME YET

Some games seem doomed before they even begin development. They’re thrown into Purgatory and forgotten, cursed to forever be referred to by people as ‘that game that never got made’. For a long time, it looked like Darksiders III was one such title. The first two games in the series were developed by Vigil Games, working under the THQ banner, but when the publisher declared bankruptcy late in 2012 it seemed that the sequel might be lost forever.

“Honestly, at the end of Darksiders II we were told fairly early on that we wouldn’t be making a Darksiders III for a while,” says David Adams, game director at Gunfire Games, as OXM chats to the studio about the game. The team had started work on a new project (“it was really cool,” said Adams), but when THQ folded, Vigil couldn’t find a buyer and was forced to close. The team split, with many coming together to form Gunfire Games. “When we first started Gunfire, pretty much everybody [here] had come over from Vigil,” explains Adams. “Since then we’ve hired more people that didn’t work there originally, but even now I’d say we have around 50 people total, and probably 30-35 of those are originally from Vigil.” What he’s trying to say is that the team knows what it’s doing. Gunfire has got this.
