Online specialist grocers are bringing the world’s farmers’ markets to your doorstep
The farm-to-table movement may have been more of a vocation in the past. Not anymore, with more restaurants using it as their calling card, and online middlemen bringing produce to our doorstep at the click of a button. Opentaste.sg, for instance, links us up with more than 200 global farms, while marketfresh.com.sg, a collective of wet market stall owners, delivers wet market produce. And that’s not counting the online specialist grocers who offer niche produce and products.
This Christmas season, when you’re literally looking to bring something special to the table, consider what some of these online specialist grocers have to offer.
The French GrocerThough it’s called The French Grocer, the array of products available at this online fine food grocer are sourced worldwide and range from charcuterie to cheeses, vegetables, meat and fish, drinks and sweets. You might find cheeses and duck liver from France just as easily as white rum from the French Caribbean, king salmon from New Zealand, black kampot pepper from Cambodia or leafy greens from Genting Highlands. For the festive season, they will be adding Hungarian frozen whole goose with giblets (3.4kg at $79.60) to their list.
Adriatic Pantry
This is possibly the only online shop in Singapore specialising in food from exotic Croatia. Owners Zoran Svetlicic and Belle Shafer bring in produce such as truffles, cheese, salt, olive oil, figs and charcuterie and drinks from Croatia, including the original maraschino liqueur from Zardar.
