Interior designer Maurizio Pellizzoni has design in his DNA. It&rsquo;s no surprise, as he grew up near Lake Como and comes from a family who work in the business. Since founding his consultancy, Maurizio Pellizzoni Ltd, in 2007, he has applied his Italian appreciation of style and design to a range of residential and commercial projects.When Maurizio was asked to refurbish the interior of this Grade II-listed building in Ascot, he discovered it had a fascinating history; it was built in the 15th century and was used by King James I, son of Mary, Queen of Scots, as a hunting lodge in the Berkshire countryside. It was remodelled in the 18th century, then further extended and altered in 1912 by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, who created the south-east wing incorporating the famous Lutyens Ballroom. The extension had its own style identity with signature domes that were replicated in other areas of the house.<img src="https://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/9339/372797/5d84b599907a5/1568978305669.jpg"" owidth=1366 oheight=1083" style="height:1083px; width:1366px" />Modern-day alterations to the interior and exterior were limited due to the fact it is a listed building and all the original fabric had to be maintained. This included fireplaces, floors, windows, doors, ceilings, cornicing, coving and all other architectural detailing. Listed buildings consent was obtained and the project was subject to a rigorous checking process.Maurizio&rsquo;s brief was to refurbish the interiors of key rooms in the house, including the Georgian Room, the Ballroom, the master bedroom and two guest bedrooms. Maurizio took the history of each room and the artworks in them as a starting point and added new furniture, bespoke pieces and antiques. The Georgian Room was transformed into a private gallery with the use of a power rail attached above the original panelling, which was carefully restored.All of the artwork was framed by master framer John Jones and was a lengthy and meticulously planned element of the project.The furniture is a mix of Ralph Lauren pieces, bespoke furniture and antiques, some sourced by Maurizio and others belonging to the family, which they wished to incorporate into the design.The soft furnishings, fabrics and curtains were sourced from de Le Cuona and the end result is a warm family home, which will grow and develop with the owners, bearing the stamp of their individual taste and family history. mauriziopellizzoni.co.uk
