Friday 13th March 2020 already feels like an eternity ago. That was the day the staff and players at AFC Bournemouth were sent home and our upcoming Premier League fixtures were cancelled. Just 10 days later, the nation went into lockdown in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Social distancing and the break from our usual routines has felt strange in some respects, but it has also quickly become the new ‘norm’.
My 22-year-old daughter Danni works in the NHS as a midwife and, as you can imagine, it has been a particularly worrying time for us as a family with her on the frontline. When the lockdown began, she still didn’t have any PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), despite working in a hospital and visiting peoples’ homes. My wife, Lynne and I felt upset and helpless in respect of her situation. I know the families of many key workers will have experienced the same emotions over the past few months.
Danni lives at home with us in Bearwood. So, every day when she comes through the front door at the end of her shift there’s the now usual routine of sanitising. She puts her clothes straight into the washing machine and has a shower before we’ve even had a chance to say ‘hello’.
