6th and 18th-20th GO LOCO
There are two chances to get all steamed up this month as the East and West Lancashire Railways stage special events. It starts in the west at Hesketh Bank on the 6th when all their available locomotives will be in steam and you’ll have the chance to drive a diesel train. Be honest: you’re tempted.
Then from the 18th-20th the action switches to the East Lancs line at Bury for their Autumn Steam Gala where you’ll be able to travel along the line, see a selection of model railways and enjoy a beer tent and live music. westlancsrailway.org, eastlancsrailway.org.uk
