My wife Velma and I are enjoying our 1951 Pontiac Chieftain Streamliner very much, and enter it often in Show &amp; Shine events. We purchased it in 2004 and it only had&nbsp;68,000 miles on it. It was built in Pontiac, Mich., for the Pontiac company&rsquo;s 25th anniversary. Shortly after the previous owner put new tires on it, one of its rear fenders got bashed up. That was back in 1976. It was put in storage afterwards&mdash;for 25 years!After buying it, we repaired the fender and did some other minor work. The exterior paint, as well as the interior are all original. It has a flathead straight eight engine in it, which has never needed overhauling.The car drives nicely and even came with the&nbsp;original instruction book in the glove compartment.One of the first Show &amp; Shines we entered was&nbsp;in Battleford, Sask., and it won awards in three categories: Originals, People&rsquo;s Choice and The &rsquo;50s. It&rsquo;s still doing well, but it has never won that many trophies at one time since.Our car has transported a few prominent people in its day, including a Ukrainian orthodox bishop and a local MLA who treated us to lunch so she could enjoy a ride in the car on the way. One time, we sat on the back bumper with the trunk open, entertaining some car admirers with Velma playing her fiddle and me on my harmonica. All offers to purchase our &rsquo;51 Pontiac are refused because we are enjoying the vehicle so much ourselves.
