Staking out a fox den for the day proved worthwhile

Finally a day to myself, free of family and work obligations. I’d been trying to get out to photograph a family of foxes for a while but I had been too busy—this was the first chance I’d had. It was June of 2017, on the first day of summer. I got up early and headed out to Nanton, a small town about an hour south of Calgary.

I had learned about this particular den the previous fall and had visited it a couple of times, but those fox kits were older and, while I enjoyed myself immensely photographingg them, I wanted pictures of younger kits.
