Accounts Executive Jonathan Shelton is a regular at Northampton Elim. In the workplace, our words will fall on deaf ears if they aren’t backed up with love, he argues.
My faith has always played an instrumental role in my work life; in fact, it has shaped my entire career journey. I gave my life to Jesus as a young kid, and it was without doubt the best decision I ever made. God has taught me so much during my career; not least how important it is to maintain integrity in the workplace.
To act with integrity in the workplace means we should be honest and have strong moral principles. We should have good character, working with decency and fairness. I love that Nathanael was described as ‘a man of complete integrity’ in the Bible (John 1:47). What an incredible accolade for him, and a wonderful challenge for us as we go about our ordinary everyday lives.
Mission field
It is my faith in Christ that has fuelled my desire to act in integrity. I haven’t always got it right, and have made a lot of mistakes along the way. But God has taught me so much in this area – how important it is for someone who calls themselves a Christian to act in integrity.
