Gordon Allan examines Paul’s advice when it came to Christians being battle-ready and spiritually armoured, as he continues his series from Ephesians 6.

What To Do When You Don't Know What To Do!

The advice of an ancient first century writer, imprisoned for his faith and who had an insight that this world was a spiritual battlefield, was to tell his readers to ‘pray in the Spirit on all occasions’ (Ephesians 6:18). He also described the need for Christians to ‘put on the full armour of God’ because they battle ‘not against flesh and blood… but against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms’ (v12).

His readers, friends who came to faith during Paul’s time establishing a church in the city of Ephesus, were waiting for a strategy of how to overcome the enemy and live free and easy in a city that previously rioted because of followers of Jesus (Acts 19:23-41). He may have said ‘you know what to do…’ He told them to PRAY. The trouble is, it sounds too simple and too passive for most men.
