Compiled From Talks by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
Suppose you were immensely successful and you had all the riches at your command and you were famous - but love was absent from your life; then, life would not really be worthwhile; it would appear barren.
From every angle we would come to the same conclusion - that all we long for in life is love; a divine love, a love that is ideal. The purpose in life is to blossom in that ideal love.
Why then do we lead a loveless life? Lack of knowledge!
Knowledge is an aid to develop our innermost layer, which is love. Everyone is made up of a substance called love. The purpose of knowing, the purpose of every civilization is to facilitate the opening of that Love. And that love when stretched becomes service.
THE PURPOSE OF THE SPACE IS THAT IT ALWAYS SERVES
There is something that can never lose value. Objects will gain value and lose value, but space will never lose value.
Think about this….You buy a pot. For what do you give the value? Or take, for example, a cup. You give the money for the space or for the outer material? Have you ever thought about it? You buy a cooking pot for the kitchen. For what do you give the value? For the space or just for the material? A lump of clay in your hand, is there any value for it? But the lump of clay, when it is made into a cup, then you give value for the space. And the value will never diminish. The purpose of the space is that it always serves. Whether it is a stainless steel cup or china clay or silver cup, the space inside the cup is what really serves, what really matters.
