Good fortune and hard work have come together to create a garden for all reasons behind Dave and Prue Moon’s home on the edge of a housing estate in Somerset.

It’S hard to believe that David and Prue Moon’s detached home was actually a consolation offering after they were gazumped almost 50 years ago.

Yet every cloud has a silver lining, or in their case, a spectacular panoramic view towards the Mendip Hills enjoyed by just a handful of properties on their 1970s housing estate near Frome.

“This plot hadn’t actually been available when we made an offer on a new house just up the road, which went on to be sold from under us,” explains Dave, a retired precision engineer.

“To make amends the developers said they would build us a house on another piece of land close by for the same price, and when we came and saw the view we were thrilled to bits.”

Initially, the couple’s garden was a square lawn on which their three children could play, but 20 years ago they had the opportunity to join two neighbours in purchasing a field running behind their properties.
