Growing organically isn’t productive and healthy by accident, says Val, as she explains her methods.
ONE of the hardest things to explain to fellow gardeners is that organic, or naturally run, gardens are healthy and productive and not overrun with pests. This doesn’t happen by accident, of course. It depends on taking evasive action at the correct time, so anything that looks diseased, or “dodgy”, is either snipped off or dug up. I spend a great deal of time looking at my plants, and if I see blackfly on the tips of the broad beans they’re removed and squashed under my wellies.
