WHILE Julius Caesar was told to ‘Beware the Ides of March’, gardeners need to be cautious about the weather throughout the month because it can be treacherous. When we have warm sunny days it can be tempting to think that spring has arrived. However, our precocious activities can be thwarted by subsequent frost, hail and snow, as the UK discovered recently when the ‘Beast from the East’ arrived.
