ACCORDING to the old saying, there’s no use sowing until you see weeds turning the surface fuzzy green with emerging seedlings. This is so true: if weeds will not grow, nothing will. And more to the point, even when weeds have started it’s still only warm enough for the hardiest vegetables – the likes of carrots, cabbages and broad beans, which are derived from natives, or are long used to our erratic cool springs.
