GEORGE Rodger was a British photographer who had a life-long love of travel and adventure.

Known as ‘the quiet Englishman’, he was a dedicated photojournalist and, together with Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa and David ‘Chim’ Seymour, he founded the Magnum Photos agency in 1947.

Rodger was born in Cheshire in 1908. He left school at 17 and joined the Merchant Navy and travelled the world.
