IT’S no secret lockdown has given birth to some serious boredom busters. From recreating vintage paintings to fashioning dresses from pillows, everyone seems to be getting in on the social-media fun, including Patrick Seleka.
The Skeem Saam actor recently caused a stir when he dressed up for the #pillowchallenge in an orange wig, strutting as he danced to Beyoncé’s Single Ladies. What made the video even more endearing to fans was it featured his wife, Mmabaneng. “I’ve always been the loud, crazy one but since lockdown she has shown me her other side, her crazy, fun side,” Patrick tells DRUM.
The couple have been married for almost two years. Even though they knew each other long before they wed, Mmabaneng says it took some time to get used to Patrick’s extroverted ways.
“His energy is out of this world. He would randomly start singing out loud and dancing crazy moves like he is injured,” she says.
“I would get so irritated but here we are. This lockdown has taught me to adjust to his energy. Like the saying goes, ‘If you can’t beat them, join them’.”
TikTok has become Patrick’s new BFF in lockdown as they love posting videos on the video-sharing network service.
“We also enjoy pranking each other,” Mmabaneng says.
They’re perfectly matched, they say, because they make space for each other’s interests. “I believe that when you say you are in a relationship, engaged or married, you need to find someone who will complement you and vice versa,” Patrick says.
