After two years of low-key Diwali festivities, we're ready to celebrate once again. Our social calendars are now packed with invitations to parties, card nights and pujas. And to ensure that we're going to look our best, we're breaking out our actives such as vitamin C, niacinamide and retinol to ensure our skin looks radiant, plump and hydrated. However, continuous partying during the festive season can undo all the work you've done. We asked some of India's leading dermatologists how to tackle common skincare concerns that arise during the festive season.
YOUR SKIN IS INFLAMED
We often rely on heavy makeup on long nights to ensure that all that product doesn't slide off our faces and to mask the after effects of previous celebrations. Products such as primers, full-coverage foundations and shimmery highlighters can clog your pores if not removed correctly. Considering you're wearing this heavyduty makeup on back-to-back days, it could cause your skin to get irritated and inflamed, and all that oil, sweat and makeup might lead to breakouts. "First, make sure to keep your skin clean," says Dr Charu Sharma, Director of Dermatology with CureSkin, Bengaluru. "Regardless of how tired you are after a long night out, it is important to remove your makeup before going to bed. Use a gentle cleanser and avoid scrubbing your face too harshly. Second, adopt an acne-specific skincare routine including products that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These ingredients will help to unclog pores and prevent new breakouts."
