In order to minimise stress and anxiety while moving, Rajagopalan suggests dividing the entire process into three phases, and carrying out each step in an organised and systematic manner to reduce chaos and make moving simpler.The first thing to do is decluttering, and it is best started on the day you decide to move. The procedure can be a bit overwhelming, but, when broken into smaller projects, it becomes easier to tackle. Rajagopalan offers some pointers on how to arrange and organise your items to make the move easier:Before The ShiftStart decluttering every corner of your house, but break the process into smaller projects and spend 15 to 20 minutes every day, rather than try to do the entire house in a day. Look through each and every item and get rid of worn-out, unnecessary items that you no longer need.Keep lists handy &ndash; these could be on a notes app on your phone or in a good old-fashioned notebook. You will need to prepare several lists such as a list of things to buy, a list of people to connect with, etc.Items with similar purpose can be clubbed together and brought to one spot. For example, all documents can be stacked together and kept at one corner, while medicines can be placed together in another designated area.As you shop for the new house, keep all the new items together in an unused cupboard or even a suitcase. This way you won&rsquo;t have to search for them on the day of the shift.On The Day Of RelocationIt&rsquo;s D Day &ndash; when you move out of your old house and enter your new space. Expect the day to be action packed since there will be movers and packers all over your house, picking up boxes to be carried to their destination.Ensure all the boxes are properly packed and labelled. Your label should clearly mention what items are inside each box and the room in which they should be placed in the new house. Ensure that the boxes are kept in their allocated rooms after they have safely arrived in the new house.Unboxing The ItemsFinally, all the boxes have made it to the new house, but you are too physically and mentally exhausted to move a limb at this point. Focus, for now, on allocating the right spot for your items rather than decorating your space.In the days following the move, invest time and energy in the aesthetic aspects of the home.Unbox each item and place it on the right shelf; you can arrange it all later.Set specific spaces for items such as towels, medicines or even simple things such as batteries.
