Not long ago, Bill Murray offered a lovely piece of advice to couples. In a video that went viral, the veteran Hollywood actor said, “If you have someone that you think is ‘The One’, don’t just think in your ordinary mind, ‘Okay, let’s make a date. Let’s plan this and have a party and get married.’ Take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world, and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And when you land in John F Kennedy International airport (JFK), and you’re still in love with that person, get married at the airport.” He simply implied that travelling together can indeed be an acid test for love, and has the potential to make or break a relationship.

Research backs this claim as well. A 2013 study, commissioned by the US Travel Association, showed that 83 per cent couples who travelled together believed the romance was still alive in their relationship because of their trips. Travel had a positive impact on every aspect of their relationship, including better sex lives, according to the study. Pune-based life coach, Dr Paras Daithankar informs, “Travelling with your loved one can reveal a lot about the viability of a relationship. Apart from creating unforgettable moments, holidays bring out our true instincts. Travelling is one of the best ways to discern if you and your partner are in sync with each other’s habits and emotions.”

Here are some basic things you can discover about your relationship while travelling with your partner.
