Raghuvendra Singh takes us on the set of Jai Gangaajal where Priyanka Chopra acts tough, talks tough.
STORY
SP Abha Mathur (Priyanka Chopra) is an honest officer. She has been posted in a place where the police are in cahoots with corrupt politicians. According to director Prakash Jha, “The politician of the constituency wants an IPS SP who can be manipulated, who’s weak and just a desk worker. So he gets in Abha Mathur. The politician had helped her family in the past. So he assumes that she will help him win the elections. But his plans go topsy tuvy leaving him frustrated.”
Jha is shooting in his friend’s bungalow in Bhopal. Thousands of people have gathered to catch a glimpse of Priyanka Chopra. An intense scene is being picturised between Priyanka and Manav Kaul inside the house. She is inquiring about a missing child. Priyanka spews a powerful dialogue, “Meri salah yeh hai ki aap iss dar ke saath jeene ki aadat daal lein. Kyunki aapki ulti ginati ab shuru ho gayi hai (my advice is that you better learn to live with this fear because your countdown has begun).” She asks Jha whether he liked the shot. She insists there’s scope for improvement and requests him for one more take. “I’m wearing the police uniform for the first time. I have played an Interpol officer in Don and Don 2 but I was an undercover agent. My dad was in the army. I used to polish his stars with Brasso. So for me uniform means principles, values, discipline and that’s exactly what Abha is about in Jai Gangaajal,” she states. “Abha is a stickler for rules but she has been posted in a place where the police are mistreated. Above all, she’s a woman. And anyway people don’t listen to women, more so in a place like this.”
