Valentine’s Day is a time for love of course, so Emma Norrington of Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust is encouraging us to join the Climate Coalition and show we care for Herts’ wildlife
THE Climate Coalition, along with sister organisations Stop Climate Chaos Cymru and Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, is a group of more than 130 organisations including the Wildlife Trust that reach across the UK to try to protect wildlife from climate change and ask politicians to put aside their differences and commit to whatever is necessary to safeguard it.
Here in Hertfordshire we have so much on our doorstep to be thankful for all year round – from the influx of the brilliant overwintering birds that we can see now, to the incredible bluebells that will carpet our woodland floor in spring and the clouds of butterflies in our meadows and grasslands in summer. But climate change can so easily impact these natural beauties. Changing temperatures disturb the journeys of migrating birds, cause flooding, droughts and heat waves and other unpredictable weather fronts that impacts hugely on crops, flowers and often livelihoods.
But while people, places and lives may be changing, the love for wildlife is stronger than ever and we can make sure that this is felt by those who can make a difference to the world we love – both on our doorstep and further afield.
