EPISODES 1.01-1.10 There’s a classic pub quiz question that asks “Which character has been played by the most actors on screen?” This usually leads to heated debates about whether it’s Sherlock Holmes or Santa Claus. That question might soon be moot. With new versions of the Arthurian legends currently springing up at what seems like an exponential rate, surely King Arthur, Merlin and Guinevere must be galloping up the rankings?

At least Netflix’s Cursed gives centre stage to a less-exposed character: Nimue. This adaptation of a Tom Wheeler/Frank Millerillustrated YA novel – developed for TV by the same creative team – creates a coming-of-age tale for the future Lady of the Lake, reasoning that as she’s the one who gives Arthur the sword Excalibur in the legend, then maybe she wielded it beforehand. So in Cursed, we follow Nimue in her journey from persecuted Fey to Warrior Queen.
