Look at the early years of Michael Rooker’s CV and he barely ventures into SFX territory – after breaking out in Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, his career was instead marked by high-profile supporting turns in the real-world likes of Days Of Thunder, Cliffhanger, Tombstone and JFK. Since James Gunn cast him as the human host of an alien with world domination on his mind in Slither, however, he’s become something of a genre stalwart. “If you look back most of my work is pretty naturalistic,” he says. “I didn’t do a lot of science fiction, and then all of a sudden it just started happening and I’m really happy.
