Amazon Prime’s comic book adaptation The Boys pits the titular team of vigilantes against the world’s premier superhero squad, the Seven. The Boys’ members include Billy Butcher, Hughie, Mother’s Milk, Frenchie and the Female. On the flip side, the Seven’s roster consists of Homelander, Starlight, The Deep, A-Train, Queen Maeve, Black Noir and new recruit Stormfront.
Turns out these costume-clad do-gooders abuse their powers for fame and fortune rather than simply using them to protect the innocent. The Boys’ mission: to expose the truth about the Seven and take down Vought International, the shady, multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages them.
The show’s initial run ended with Homelander laser-beaming his boss Madelyn Stillwell in the face, and with Butcher at his mercy. Furthermore, A-Train discovered the romantic entanglement between Hughie (who gets drawn into Billy Butcher’s world after his girlfriend becomes collateral damage to speedster A-Train) and innocent Seven newbie Starlight. When The Boys returns for season two, Butcher is missing – his gang’s been driven underground. And they’re being hunted by both the law and the Seven. Showrunner Eric Kripke promises “a deeper and more intense” second season, as the characters are put through the emotional wringer.
