The fusion of jazz and funk appeared in early &rsquo;70s USA, pioneered by jazz pianist Herbie Hancock before being taken up by jazz luminaries (Brecker Brothers, George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Tower Of Power) and moved out of America. Considered to be a bit of a sell-out by purists, the style had disco-based rhythms, early synth sounds and technical challenges for the improvising musician.Guitar tones were varied: some players stuck to traditional jazz cleans, while others experimented with new effects of the time like choruses, flangers and auto-wahs. High-gain settings weren&rsquo;t common, but the style has evolved &ndash; if you opt for distortion, aim for a glassy, compressed medium drive with some delay and reverb for smoothness.Our track moves between Bb Mixolydian in the verse and Bb minor in the chorus.
