Originally written as a piece of music for The Meters to open sets with, Cissy Strut has since risen in prominence to become the band&rsquo;s most famous track. It&rsquo;s also a fantastic piece of music to help you develop groove and feel. The bass doubles Leo Nocentelli&rsquo;s guitar line rhythmically, though not always melodically, and, in the absence of a vocal line, Ziggy Modeliste&rsquo;s drums have freedom to play around with space and timing.Rockschool&rsquo;s tab focuses on the two main riffs. The opening riff in bar 1 is essentially a C minor pentatonic phrase, however, there are some differences: by bending the 6th fret Eb note by a quarter-tone Nocentelli hints at an E note, implying a &lsquo;dominant&rsquo; C7 chord instead of Cm7; the G-G-A phrase on the sixth string along with the Bb and F/C chords in bar 2 further lessens the blues feel, bringing a sweeter twist to the track that verges on light funk or even gospel.
