72 Hours In Western Jordan
What's On Dubai|December 2018

Unbeatable outdoor adventures, urban thrills, soulsatisfying food and dreamatic landscapes: just a few of the surprises you can expect from Indiana’s playground

72 Hours In Western Jordan

TO DO LIST

PETRA

Exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site is a no-brainer, with a day at the 7,000 yearold archaeological city and world wonder at the top of most keen travellers’ must-see lists. The twists and turns of the Siq gorge and the grand reveal of the towering AlKhazneh treasury at the end of the kilometre-long rock tunnel makes for a breathtaking moment. Excavation work is still on-going at the ancient site, with a rediscovered buried monument the size of an Olympic swimming pool next in line to be uncovered.

TOP TIP: While it’s a bit of a hike, it’s well worth taking the time to climb the 800 steps up the pink cliffside to take in the tranquil monastery, an equally impressive monument minus the crowds found below.

DESERT TREK

Board a camel for a traditional trek or pile into a vintage open-top Jeep for a ride through Wadi Rum’s striking landscape – all 720 square kilometres of it. There’s plenty of history to be uncovered in the secret caves, with clearly visible engravings dating back thousands of years capturing an ancient nomadic culture.

The more adventurous can glide down the red sands, with a dedicated dune known for its impressive slope.

TOP TIP: Consider hiring a guide from the official visitor’s centre. They know all the best spots for striking photo opps, and will save the suspension on your rental car.
