Early in the morning of 18 January 1981, dozens of black youths were enjoying a party at 439 New Cross Road in southeast London when a fire ripped through the three-storey house.

Many believe the blaze was started deliberately as a racist hate crime, yet despite 13 people dying on that fateful morning, the police never charged anyone with starting the fire.
