A Shed Filled With Love

Welcome to the drought pantry where desperate farmers head to feed their families – and get a hug!

The smiles on Ebony and Meah HennesseyCampbell’s faces light up this old industrial shed in Tamworth each time they “shop” with their mother for supplies for our drought-stricken farmers.

Their mum Shantel Campbell regularly travels with her daughters from nearby Kootingal to collect supplies for farmers, who are so hard-pressed they don’t even have time to leave their land because of the big dry.

“It’s about helping, and my kids and I head in there at least three times a week,” explains Shantel, who is just one of many lending a hand to help those in need in the bush.

THE COMMUNITY UNITES

Drought pantry founder SueEllen Wilkin launched Doing It For Our Farmers just over a year ago as the drought worsened, taking a terrible toll on our brave men and women of the land.

Within three weeks she had more than12,000 people join her Facebook page and the goods and cash started rolling in. The Tamworth Uniting Church took over the accountancy work, a local farmer donated a shed and volunteers started coming out of the woodwork.

The grassroots program has now assisted thousands of farming families across regional NSW, providing cash vouchers and hay as well as the basic groceries they need.
