They may have a combined age of 163 but if anyone is kicking sand in the faces of Tinseltown 20-somethings, it’s these two formidable grand dames of show business.
Which, as anyone will tell you, is no small feat in a place like Hollywood where most stars are regarded as over the hill by the time they hit 50.
Grace and Frankie have given Jane Fonda (82) and Lily Tomlin (81) a new lease of life – and viewers another reason to watch TV.
The Netflix show is a hilarious yet poignant take on two friends whose twilight years are turned upside down when their husbands (played by Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) announce they’re in love with each other and are embarking on a new life together.
Suddenly alone, Grace ( Jane) and Frankie (Lily), who’ve had a pretty prickly relationship, realise the only thing they can rely on now is each other. The result? Pure, award-nominated magic.
Since its inception in 2015 the show has racked up numerous Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations for its two inimitable leading ladies – and it recently added another feather to its overstuffed cap.
Grace and Frankie has been renewed for a seventh – and final – season and now holds the honor of being Netflix’s longest-running original series.
“It’s thrilling and somehow fitting that our show about the challenges as well as the beauty and dignity of aging will be the oldest show on Netflix,” co-creator Marta Kauffman and Howard J Morris said in a statement.
