Bold and beautiful, the B.zerol by Bulgari celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Created in 1999 to welcome the millennium, the name resonates with all the good vibes of a fresh new beginning the "B" stands for Bulgari, the "zero" signifies the new millennium while the number "1" represents infinite beginnings.
As an Italian brand, the jeweller looked homeward for inspiration when it was creating this jewellery piece. Rome's most iconic monument, the Colosseum was its starting point, with the B.zerol designed to capture the fluid geometry of its historic architecture. The result was a ring made entirely out of yellow gold, sporting five bands that also evoked the sleek lines of Tubogas - a type of Italian industrial gas pipe from the 1920s.
Over the last 25 years, the B.zerol's iconic design has inspired many iterations, including limited edition versions that are a result of Bulgari's collaboration with creatives like British-Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor and the late Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. The bold design of the ring also makes it a great creative canvas when it comes to experimenting with materials and embellishments - like micro studs as well as black and white ceramic. The B.zerol also saw a product extension out of the realm of rings to include other jewellery styles too, such as pendants, earrings and bangles.
