After Killing It As Lara Croft, Winning An Oscar For The Danish Girl, And Charming Us As A Louis Vuitton Ambassador, Alicia Vikander Is Now Placing Her Bets With Legendary Director Olivier Assayas. We Caught Up With This Chic Girl While She Was Filming In Paris
Yann Perreau
The Marvelous Alicia
After a year and a half of no filming due to the lockdown, Alicia Vikander finds great pleasure in working again on a film set. “It’s been too long!” enthuses this hyperactive girl, who makes an average of two to three feature films per year. Now, she is playing Irma Vep, the vampire-like heroine of the 1996 cult film with the same name, which is being adapted into a mini-series under the direction of Olivier Assayas.

This Oscar-winning actress, one of Hollywood’s most respected, increasingly chooses atypical projects. Alicia defends the “politique des auteurs” (as they used to say in the days of the French New Wave), or what is known in English as “auteur theory” where the director of a film is also the author, giving extensive control to one person over the project. She also speaks of her relationship with Nicolas Ghesquière, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton, a man who inspired her even before he became so well-known.

You are now preparing to play the lead role in Olivier Assayas’ Irma Vep. What made you interested in this project?
